ON
A PERSONAL NOTE:
We are aware that the enormous growth
in popularity of these events makes the gathering of sponsorship more
difficult, especially for the regular runners. Whilst we hope this event
provides a competitive base for the serious runners, its main aim is to
raise money for local and national charities as well as having a fun day
out.
The army of people who help organise
this event give their time and effort freely and organisations such as the
Brentwood Borough Council provide assistance. The result is that all moneys
collected go to charity, none is swallowed up in administrative costs. Few
fund raising events can claim the same.
We would therefore urge you to gain as
much sponsorship as possible; if you have a specific charity you wish to
raise money for, great!, all we would ask is that you let us know how
much you raised so that we can attribute it to the event.
If you are happy for us to distribute
the money to one of the selected charities please send us a cheque as soon
as possible after the event.
BACKGROUND:
The Brentwood Half Marathon is organised by the
Brentwood à Becket Rotary Club in association with Brentwood Borough
Council. In 2006, the name of the race was changed to The Equity Insurance
Group Brentwood Half Marathon and Fun Run in honour of that organisation
which is continuing to financially supporting the event.
This is our twenty seventh run, the first twenty six having raised well over
£800,000. for
local and national charities.
The whole event is primarily designed to be a money raiser, and to this end
we are very much dependent on you the entrant, to do your very best to help
us make this event financially successful. Our target is simply to exceed
last years efforts,
so please raise as much sponsorship as you can.
CHARITIES:
All money raised will be split amongst
local and national charities
at the discretion of the Brentwood à Becket Rotary Club, and all donations
will be announced through the local press.
RESULTS:
The results will be published in the Brentwood Gazette
in the weeks following the event. In addition detailed results will be
posted on the Race Web Site.
www.brentwoodhalf.org. If you would like
copies of the results sheets, please supply a stamped, addressed, envelope
to the main address.

the following briefing.
Both Events
-
Runners are reminded
that they must obey the directions of a) Police and b) Authorised
marshals at all times and should run in a responsible manner within the
law.
-
At the start of both
events, runners should keep well to the left when entering the main road
and not stray into the centre of the road.
-
Please run on the
pavement wherever possible.
Fun Run
-
Runners accompanying
younger children and slower runners should start near the back to avoid
obstructing faster runners.
-
This route is
partially run on public footpaths which may be slippery when wet. Please
take additional care and consideration for fellow fun runners, and wear
suitable footwear.
Half Marathon
Whilst every effort will be made to allow free progress of the runners, it
